From Medium to YouTube

Over the past week, I dabbled in something that I should have started years ago – video production. More specifically, amateur video editing. I bought an entry-level camera, a microphone, and a couple mic stands and started recording myself. I picked one of my more popular Medium posts to base it on (https://medium.com/always-be-coding/abc-always-be-coding-d5f8051afce2).

Over the past week, I went from Camtasia to Premiere Pro and recorded the post 4 different times, all with different lighting and camera settings and without publishing a single video. The more I learned, the more I thought my work was sh*t and feared releasing it before it was perfect. Either the sound had too much reverb or the lighting was too bright or whatever. This is all too common in product development and entrepreneurship, always believing your work isn’t quite ready — this is a myth and so, I wrapped up the video today and published it.

So after ~8 hours of editing a 10 minute video (ugh), I’m excited to do more and see where takes me(even though I might be over six years late to the game). Here’s the post, leave me a comment if you’d like to see a post on any subject (ideally related to tech).

Reach out on Twitter @davidbyttow, I’d love to hear from you.
